Last Weekend

I had purchased a groupon a while ago for bowling and so we decided last weekend to finally use it. It was for 4 people so we had James and Camille come along. I don't think that Jeff and I have ever been bowling together. Weird. None of  us even broke 100 (Jeff got the closest) but we still had fun.

It also came with a 10 dollar arcade voucher. So we did some skeeball and other games. Jane loved the skeeball. Just like her mom.

The next night we went to this thing where once a month (during the summer) a bunch of the food trucks from around town gather in one place. It was some seriously good eats. Too many to pick from so we tried and few and were not disappointed. There was a ton of people there

This is Jeff standing by the truck for the below sandwich. Oh my it was soooo good. It is called an Arepa. It is from Venezuela I think they said. Black bean, avocado and sweet plantain.

This was delicious too but it in a, I might have a heart attack after it finish it, kind of way. A massive biscuit, fried chicken, bacon, cheese and gravy.

We also got some cupcakes, of course. We had one called the Elvis. It was peanut butter, jelly, banana and bacon. Surprisingly good. It was a tribute to his favorite sandwich which originated in Denver. The rest of the pics were just us playing around. We are really excited to go to this food truck party again next month.

Cousins

Preston and Annettte visited us last week. It was so fun to finally get to meet their daughter Ruby. Jane was happy about it too, well at least for a while. No, they did mostly get along except when Jane was pushing Ruby down (Ruby is just learning to walk). We did have some fun times together though. Ruby took her first shared bath. She had a good time.

Another fun thing that we did was go to a park that has water spray things. What do they call that? We were joined by my friend Camille and her son Jacob. A good time was had by all.

Here is Ruby trying to mimic Preston's facial expression.

Jacob is such a cutie. He is definetly Jane's BFF.

Jane just kept sitting where the water was pooling and would splash and say 'bath'.

Here is Ruby going to town on Jacobs sippy cup. The reason this is significant is that we found out later that day that Jacob had Hand, Foot and Mouth. Jane and Ruby both drank out of that cup. Both of them got fevers but never broke out in a rash or bumps. Thank goodness.
Jane mostly stayed away from the spraying water but eventually did go in them. Here is the sequence of events (after she scored Jacobs hat)

There was a tall flower thing that sprayed water.

While they were under there Jane was at the water barrier looking at them envyingly.

Besides that potential illness, we are so glad that they came to visit. We also went to eat at Chix fil a (of course because it is Preston and Annettes favorite place and the don't have them in Michigan), Annette helped me plant my front flower bed, and Preston and I went on a bike ride. Then they were off to go visit Annette's brother and the new baby.

The Accident

So here is the story. On Tuesday morning I get a call from Jeff on my phone like 30 minutes after he left for work. He said he was in the emergency room because he was in a bike accident. I hurried and dressed and rushed down there. Luckily, my sister was in town to watch Jane (thanks Rach). I thought that since Jeff had called me that this was a good sign that nothing too horrible had happened. When I got there this is how he looked. (some of you saw this already on facebook)

His hands are pretty beat up too but no photos of those. So here is what he says happened. He had taken his bike to work so that he could bike home. He drove to the light rail station and wanted to hurry to catch the train so he hopped on his bike. This part is a little fuzzy but he thinks that his backpack (which was only on one arm, how many times so I have to tell you) slipped off and hit the handle bars. This caused him to lose control and face plant. Then he was a little confused but managed to drive himself to the closest hospital. So no broken bones but a slight concussion. He got three stitches. Here is what he looks like cleaned up but still at the hospital.

It does look better than before. All the dried blood made it look so bad. But it seemed to only look worse after time. Here is a pic that he took later in the day.

It is kind of far away but his eye was swollen shut for about a day. He still has a marble bump underneath the stitch on his eye lid. That must have been the point of impact. He ended up staying home from work for 2 days. He is doing well now and not really having any pain.
There are two lessons to be learned here: is that no matter how short your bike trip is wear your helmet and wear your backpack on both shoulders. Yes, he wasn't wearing his. It could have prevented some of this but not all. That is the exciting story for the week.

On another note. You all know how Jeff and I love music so much. Well I decided that with some or most of the posts that I would post a song that I love/loved. So here it is for today.

Ivy and Gold by Bombay Bicycle Club. This is an acoustic version but it is almost as good as the album version. I really do love this album (Flaws). There you have it :)

Utah

I made an impromptu trip to Utah last week. Jeff was out of town on work and I found out that a couple of my friends from far away were going to be there. So I convinced my sister to drive back with me and packed up the car and was off. Jane did really well in the car and actually slept quit a bit. Overall, it was a really good trip. I didn't get to see all of the people that I would have liked to but I did see a lot of people. Here are some of those who I did see.

Here are the kids one day enjoying green drink.

Here are some of the kids playing and looking really cute.

Jane discovered her love of galoshes and was rockin them hard.

She also discovered a love of seaweed. Rachel always has it at her house. Jane couldn't get enough. She was double fisting it.

I also found a real love for seaweed. I didn't like it at first (although I love sushi) but ate it a couple of times. Now I am craving it. Weird but delicious. Rachel drove home with me and Jane did really well again. Rachel was thinking that she didn't really need to drive with me but then she wouldn't have gotten to visit me. We have been just hanging out this week with her here. Eating, watching movies and such. It is pretty much what we do and we love it. Rachel also taught an essential oils class and that was fun and informative. I am really sad that she is going to be leaving tomorrow but I guess her family needs her too. She was also here to experience the really fun thing that happened this week. More on that next time :)
